#4 Donate my hair to a cause

I'm not sure I was ready to have it all taken off, but it's over with now. 10 inches to Locks of Love. It was a lot more hair than I thought it was going to be. Leaves me with barely nothing left, but it's for such a good cause. Afterall, it'll grow back soon.

Locks of Love uses 6-10 braids to make one hairpiece. They'll need a lot more hair than what I could provide, but every little bit helps! My hair is so fine it looks like such a minimal donation. Trust me, it looked like a lot more hair on my head than in the little braids that are being sent in!

#13 Go Para-sailing

Para-sailing was so amazing!  I shared this experience with Nathanial.  We both enjoyed ourselves immensely.  It's unbelievable how quiet it is 1000 feet above the Atlantic.  The view was breathtaking.  I scored some major cool mom points for this!

#28 Donate in a blood drive

Today I donated blood at work. It kind of hurt and made me a bit nauseous but it was a good experience all around. I have A positive blood and I'm a super slow bleeder. This time though, I was able to fill the bag completely in the allotted time.

It also gave me the opportunity to explain to Nathanial what donating blood is about and why it should be done.  One donation can save up to 3 people's lives.  One such donation in 2003, saved Nathanial's life.  In 2003, we learned that Andy has the rarest blood type of AB Rh negative.  While they couldn't use his blood for Nathanial's transfusion, I'm positive that it went to good use to help save someone's life.

Progress Report

It's just about 1 month since my birthday... and while it doesn't look like I've made much progress but I assure you I have.

I have done the following:
* Picked out a tattoo
* Put $1 away each day
* Taken a picture every day
* Started a blog
* Scheduled a blood donation (July 16)
* Going to the beach to do para-sailing (July 23)

Eleven months to go!

Gift Giving

We're not really big into gifts between the husband, son, and myself. Presents on birthdays and mini-days like Mother's Day & Father's Day are pretty limited between the three of us. We do tend to celebrate with gifts for family outside the three of us though.

Honestly, I prefer it that way. It's very uncomfortable trying to find something in a store just because it's a special day. I think it's more special to find something for someone randomly just because 'it's perfect for them'.

For instance, last month our son turned seven. Knowing that he'd receive a ton of gifts from family & friends, we held back on getting him anything significant. With that in mind... today, while we were out, I saw something that was perfect for him. Something that I know he will enjoy and look forward to doing every day.

Seeing his face light up tonight when he got home and I showed him what we had found for him was priceless. While the thought of the gift totally makes me go 'eek'! I know he will absolutely love watching the ants in his new ant farm create tunnels and live off the plants and food in there.

After spending the day with his grandparents, he also came home with a special gift for each of us. Isn't this lovely? He picked it out for me all by himself. I swear the picture didn't look fuzzy on my phone before I uploaded it.

31st Birthday

Today it happened.  I turned 31.  I don't feel any different.  Should I?

It was quite a busy day today.  I spent most of the day on the road driving between central and western PA.

While in Johnstown, we stopped at Glow Golf.  My son LOVES this place.  Today's picture is from there.  It's actually a picture of the doors at the back of the place - I love how they've used the paint as graffiti and make glow.  Super kid-friendly place and if we had one closer to home, you bet we would be hosting a birthday party there at some point.  It was our first stop at 10:00 this morning, we were there by ourselves and in and out in a flash.

Coming soon...

So this year, I thought it would be fun to do 31 things while I'm 31 years old.  Officially, I turn 31 on June 19th.

Over there on the left sidebar, is my list.  As of right now it's not quite complete, but I hope to have the last seven things filled in very soon.

The plan is as I do each of the items, to post about it here with and link the post to the side bar so it's easy to find later.

Anyway, check back soon - I turn 31 on Saturday and that's when all the fun will begin!
